Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. You don’t have to deal with your struggles on your own.

Common Questions.

What should I know before the assessment?
The first session is an intake appointment designed for me and you to get to know one another. In this session we will discuss various aspects of your history (family/current and past relationships, history of mental health concerns, medical concerns, life, work, and other stressors) and collaborate on your goals to address your individual concerns. The first session is typically more structured as there are many aspects that need to be addressed in this first initial assessment.
Why don't you take insurance?
Many reasons!

1. Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis. This does not work for me because I believe diagnoses are flawed, subjective representations of pathological tendencies too easy applied willy-nilly. I recognize the utility and unfortunate importance of using diagnosing, but I choose to work outside of this system if I can. I see my clients as whole, resilient, capable people facing behavioral and emotional roadblocks to fulfillment. I do not see them as diseases needing cures.

2. Lack of confidentiality. Insurance companies audit clinicians all the time. When they do this they look at session notes and all information given. This just doesn’t sit right with me! I don’t believe anyone should be allowed to see your information if they do not have to.

3. Effort. Working with insurance companies demands an incredible amount of time and patience to fulfill paperwork demands, pursue reimbursements, re-authorizations for treatment, etc. This is time I could actually be working with clients face to face, which I find invigorating and enjoyable. It is also time I can be taking care of myself so I am at my best when I’m with clients, present and energetic.

I could go on and on about this question, but will spare you a long read! I would love to talk more about this if you would like in our consultation call.

What is your approach/modality for therapy?
I consider myself an Integrative Psychotherapist, which means that I utilize a variety of orientations and therapies, according to the client’s individual needs.
Can I still use my benefits even though you don't accept insurance?
Yes! Each client will be provided with paperwork called a “SuperBill” that you can submit to your insurance plan for possible reimbursement. You will need to check with your individual insurance plan to see how much they will reimburse for out of network providers.
If we are not a good fit then will you help me find another therapist?
Of course! I have a list of wonderful clinicians in the area that I would love to share with you!
What forms of payment do you accept?
All forms of credit (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover) are accepted as payment. This will include the option to pay with your HSA or FSA card which has a tax benefit. Your payment information will be stored in a HIPPA compliant, secure, online portal.
Do you offer telehealth sessions?
Yes! I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform to conduct these sessions. Before each session, I’ll send you an invitation in your client portal, which is created when you become a client of mine.

Things needed for a Telehealth therapy session: a computer, some headphones for added privacy, a private space, and yourself!

Can you work with other providers to coordinate care?
Yes! Often times it is very helpful to coordinate care. You will sign a release and I will be able to talk to your doctor, dietitian, or any other provider you would like me to collaborate with.
Do you offer family sessions?
Yes! I see family therapy very beneficial! I am not a family therapist, but do believe bringing family into sessions can be extremely helpful.

I meet you where you need to be met.
